Bring Photo ID to Vote in Local Elections on 4th May 2023

From 4 May 2023, voters in England will need to show photo ID to vote at a polling station. This change applies to local elections taking place in the Cotswold District on 4 May 2023.

You can check whether or not you have accepted forms of photo ID by clicking on the link below.

Accepted Forms of ID

If you don’t have one of the accepted forms of ID you can apply for a free ID which is known as a Voter Authority Certificate as long as you do it by 5pm on Tuesday 25 April.

How to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate

You need to be Registered to Vote before you apply for a Voter Authority Certificate.

When you register to vote, you’ll be asked whether you have photo ID or if you want to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate

Voting by Post:

You don’t need photo ID to vote by post, so you don’t need to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate.

Proxy Voters:

Proxy Voters will be required to show their own valid ID when voting on behalf of someone else.
